Valerio Massimo Manfredi born in Modena (Italy) in 1943. He holds a degree in classical literature and expert in topography of the ancient world, now a professor of classical archeology at the University Luigi Bocconi of Milan. In addition to his academic dedication, has actively participated in numerous expeditions and excavations of ancient remains and has taught in Italy and in various international universities. He has published numerous articles and academic papers, primarily on research on the ancient world and military and trade routes.

has also written and directed documentaries about the ancient world for most major television networks as well as works of fiction for film and television.
